Itinerary for Two Days in Lome, Togo.

They say “follow the person who knows the road.” My journey to Lome, Togo with Alarinnka was nothing short of amazing. We had a road trip from Lagos, Nigeria all the way to Accra, Ghana passing through Cotonou, Benin Republic and Lome, Togo and the border crossings were made easy and interesting.

Togo is the middle country so we made Lome our base for short stay. Spending two nights in Lome was an exciting stay, from the resort we camped at to the lovely activities we got to enjoy in the city.

These are the interesting things to do in Lome, Togo.

Coastal Shores Exploration: Driving along the coastal shores towards the Aflao Border, we uncovered hidden gems scattered throughout the city. From bustling local markets offering an array of fabrics and crafts to street vendors selling fresh fruits and the iconic street burger, there was no shortage of delights to indulge in. The highlight was dining at Big Sam Restaurant, where we savoured our favourite Egusi and Okra Nigerian dishes.

The Lome beach coastal street itself is a beautiful sight to behold and along the beautiful palms are beach clubs for quick drinks as well as a playground for sandy and water games. You should take a stroll along the Lome Beach in the evening and relax by the shores of the Atlantic Ocean. You will also get to see artisan shops for souvenirs and handmade crafts.

Vibrant Nightlife: The beach coastal street is also Lome’s vibrant nightlife, dining at a beachfront restaurant or exploring the city’s lively bars and clubs to enjoy live music and dance to local rhythms. It definitely will invite you to dance the night away alongside locals and fellow travellers. It is a vibrant scene that captured the essence of Lome’s spirit and will leave anyone longing for more.

Exciting Activities: The second day was filled with thrilling activities that added an extra layer of excitement to our journey. We enjoyed exhilarating Go-Kart races at Bienvenue au Centre, had friendly competitions at the bowling alley at Piscine, there was never a dull moment. Some of us also took to the waters, kayaking amidst the serene beauty of Blue Turtle Bay, immersed in the natural splendour of the surroundings.

City Exploration: To get to know the city of Lome, I suggest starting at the Avenue De L’oua corner, where you get to pay homage to Togo’s rich history at the Independence Monument, which was under construction at the time of our visit. I was excited to see this as Togo and Nigeria gained their independence the same year – 1960. Just across the independence monument is the Palais des Congres, a modern architectural marvel that hosts various cultural events and exhibitions. You will get to see unique designs and panoramic views of the city from this building.

If you have the opportunity to spend more than two days, then I recommend you take a relaxing boat cruise along the Mono River and explore the picturesque villages and mangrove forests along the shoreline. Keep an eye out for local wildlife and enjoy the serene atmosphere of the river.

You may also do a visit to the Marche des Nanas Benz, a market run exclusively by women selling imported textiles and fabrics. Admire the colorful displays and shop for unique fabrics to take home as souvenirs.

In Lome, every street, every corner, and every experience told a story waiting to be uncovered. It was a journey of exploration, enlightenment, and unforgettable moments shared with cherished friends. As we bid farewell to this vibrant city, I carried with me memories that would last a lifetime.
